The Shenzhen Ping An Finance Center (PAFC) is a transit-integrated, 600-meter-tall building that occupies a major node in the increasingly connected megacity of Hong Kong-Shenzhen-Guangzhou. Since its completion, PAFC has become a well-loved landmark, both for its iconic expressiveness on the Shenzhen skyline and for its craftsmanship and enduring materiality. Its stretched, obelisk-like shape is streamlined with continuously tapering corners for aerodynamic performance, visual effect, and space efficiency.
As the hub of Shenzhen’s central business district, PAFC plugs into a vast three-dimensional network of subways, pedestrian footbridges, and street-level connections. Notwithstanding its density, the impact of the project at street level is surprisingly humane. Sheltered arcades, broad canopies, and human-scale elements create a walkable and vibrant atmosphere.
